RiffWorks T4 is a free edition of RiffWorks guitar recording software that includes looped recording, automatic track creation, InstantDrummer, effects, song posting, online collaboration*, and a “Quick Start” tutorial in 14 languages.
Very Simply it allows you to record songs online with friends, new and old around the world for free (for 60days)!
It features a set of demo InstantDrummers, which you can utilise in your material, you would need to upgrade to a full version to add new InstantDrummers, though on upgrade you will obtain 9 new InstantDrummers for free. If you collaborate online, and you do not have the drummer, then the drums used are streamed, so that you hear them, as the composer intended.

Hardware
If your computer uses USB, which is common on most if not all PC's these days, you have various choices - just to point out that these are not personal recommendations; but it is the same or similar equipment that I use from day to day.
The UX1 is a USB 1 and 2 compatible audio interface that allows home recording, it features a balanced XLR input and high-quality mic preamp to help produce clean and clear vocal tracks, in addition to the standard 1/4 inch jack for guitar or keyboards.
NB : I use a UX2, but the if you sing and/or play an instrument, the UX1, is the cheaper option - the UX2 allows 2 MIc inputs, and normal and pad inputs for acoustic or electric guitars or keyboards.
